The Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) is a national-level entrance examination held every year for admission to Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm) courses in India. Until GPAT 2025, the examination is held by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) rather than the National Testing Agency (NTA). The examination is held in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode and is meant to evaluate candidates' knowledge in different pharmacy subjects.

Until 2018, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) organized the exam, and later NTA took over. Today, NBEMS organizes GPAT. The GPAT score is utilized for M. Pharma admissions and is also taken into consideration for scholarships and financial aid. The syllabus of the exam includes all the major subjects of the B. Pharma curriculum, such as Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, and Pharmacognosy. The fees of the exam, question pattern, and syllabus structure are more or less the same under NBEMs.

Hello!

Ideally, GPAT preparation should start around 8–10 months before the exam to give yourself enough time to cover the syllabus and revise properly. Since GPAT is a competitive exam, consistency is the key. You can start with 2–3 hours of study daily in the initial months and then increase it to 6–8 hours as the exam approaches. Break your schedule into three phases: Phase 1 (first 4 months) – cover the entire syllabus subject by subject, focusing on concepts and notes; Phase 2 (next 3 months) – revise topics and start solving previous year papers; Phase 3 (final 2 months) – focus on mock tests, time management, and weaker areas. Always reserve the last few weeks for pure revision and formula memorization. Remember, regular revision and practice are more important than long study hours without focus.
