An Interview with Ritisha Dhananjay Gupta, a PharmD Student at East Point College of Pharmacy

Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. Where are you from? What makes you want to pursue PharmD degree? What do you hope to achieve with Pharmacy?

East Point College of Pharmacy (EPCP), Bangalore is approved by the Pharmacy Council of India and affiliated with the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Health Sciences, Bangalore. EPCP admissions are offered for programmes at the diploma, UG, and PG levels. East Point College of Pharmacy has a dedicated placement cell that helps students secure jobs in top companies.

This interview with Ritisha Dhananjay Gupta, a PharmD student at East Point College of Pharmacy, is presented to you by Careers360. In this interview, Ritisha talks about industry interactions, internships, placements and facilities offered by EPCP, Bangalore.

Ritisha: I’m Ritisha Dhananjay Gupta, a fifth-year Pharm.D student from Mumbai, and my passion for pharmacy began with a deep curiosity about how medicines work and their profound impact on human lives. Choosing to pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy was my way of diving into the heart of clinical practice and research, with the goal of contributing meaningfully to patient care.

To me, pharmacy is more than a profession—it’s a bridge between science and healing. It combines the rigour of scientific understanding with the compassion of healthcare delivery. My vision is to make a lasting impact, especially in the area of public health, where preventive care and access to safe medication can transform entire communities.

Every experience on this journey brings me closer to becoming a professional dedicated to advancing health and making a difference where it matters most.

Careers360: Presently which course are you pursuing and in which year are you? What has been your most rewarding academic experience thus far?

Ritisha: I’m currently in my fifth year of the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) program, and one of the most impactful moments in my academic journey so far was participating in a clinical case discussion at the hospital. It was the first time I truly felt like a contributor in a patient’s therapy—not just observing, but actively engaging in the process.

Understanding the patient’s condition, reviewing their treatment plan, and collaborating with the healthcare team gave me a sense of purpose and confidence that textbooks alone could never provide. This experience reaffirmed my passion for clinical pharmacy and deepened my commitment to making a meaningful difference in patient-centred care.

Careers360: Tell us about the course curriculum and specialisations offered. Are the learning more theory-based or practical-based?

Ritisha: East Point College of Pharmacy is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), and the Pharm.D curriculum follows the university’s structured and comprehensive guidelines. As a Pharm.D student, I’ve found the curriculum to be exceptionally well-balanced, integrating both theoretical knowledge and practical exposure at every stage.

We begin with strong foundational subjects like pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, and pharmacy practice, which lay the groundwork for advanced clinical learning. As the course progresses, we transition into hospital postings, clinical rotations, and case-based learning, giving us firsthand experience in patient care and therapeutic decision-making.

This blend of classroom instruction and clinical immersion has been instrumental in shaping our readiness for real-world healthcare environments and deepening our understanding of the pharmacist’s role in multidisciplinary care.

Careers360: Did you face any difficulty in the initial months when you joined the institute?

Ritisha: Coming from Mumbai, adjusting to a new city, academic environment, and the demanding nature of the Pharm.D program was initially overwhelming. The medical terminologies, clinical routines, and academic workload felt challenging at first. However, the constant support from my peers and faculty made all the difference.

Their guidance and encouragement helped me adapt quickly and confidently, turning those early challenges into opportunities for growth. Today, I feel more prepared, both academically and personally, to take on the responsibilities that come with a career in pharmacy.

Careers360: Were there any guest lectures/industry interactions held by the Institute during remote learning? Tell us about them.

Ritisha: Yes, East Point College of Pharmacy organized several insightful webinars and guest lectures featuring professionals from the pharmaceutical industry and leading hospitals. These sessions offered us a unique opportunity to hear real-world experiences and explore case studies that brought textbook theories to life.

Listening to industry experts share their journeys and practical insights helped us bridge the gap between academics and clinical practice, deepening our understanding of the evolving role of pharmacists in healthcare. It was truly inspiring and added immense value to our learning experience.

Careers360: Does the institute provide opportunities to interact with industry stalwarts and people from the corporate world? If yes, share your experience and learnings.

Ritisha: At East Point College of Pharmacy, we’ve had several valuable industry interactions, both virtually and on campus. These sessions played a key role in expanding my perspective beyond the traditional clinical setup.

Through discussions with industry professionals, I gained exposure to diverse career avenues such as regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance, and industrial pharmacy. These interactions not only deepened my understanding of the pharmaceutical landscape, but also helped me envision a broader range of possibilities for my future in the field.

Careers360: What all initiatives are taken by the institute to make the classes and learning more engaging for all students?

Ritisha: At East Point College of Pharmacy, the faculty actively fosters a dynamic and engaging learning environment. We regularly participate in quizzes, case presentations, peer discussions, and poster competitions that not only reinforce our subject knowledge but also sharpen our analytical and communication skills.

Assignments are thoughtfully designed to encourage clinical thinking and promote patient-oriented problem-solving, preparing us to approach real-life healthcare scenarios with confidence and clarity. These interactive academic activities make learning more practical, collaborative, and impactful.

Careers360: How helpful your institute has been in offering you the resources to learn from home?

Ritisha: At East Point College of Pharmacy, the institute ensured we had seamless access to study materials and academic resources through the Quiklrn platform. Regular academic updates kept us informed and well-prepared throughout the course.

What truly stood out was the approachability of the faculty—they were just a message away, always ready to respond with guidance and support. Whether it was an academic concern or a personal challenge, our issues were heard with empathy, and solutions were provided promptly, always with the student’s best interest in mind. This strong support system made a significant difference in our learning journey.

Careers360: What activities are offered in the institute? Are there any clubs, societies, etc for the various extracurricular activities? Which ones have you taken up and are a part of?

Ritisha: At East Point College of Pharmacy, students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of academic and co-curricular clubs, including the Pharmacovigilance Club and the Newsletter Club. These platforms encourage open dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaborative learning through interactive sessions and student-led discussions.

I have personally been an active member of the Pharmacovigilance Club, where I had the opportunity to contribute and share my role, gaining deeper insights into drug safety and regulatory practices. These clubs are a great way for students to engage beyond the classroom and develop both academic and professional skills in a supportive environment.

Careers360: Tell us about the faculty-student ratio here and the teacher-student relationship in your understanding.

Ritisha: At East Point College of Pharmacy, the faculty-student ratio is well-balanced, allowing for personalised attention and meaningful academic engagement. The faculty members are not only highly approachable, but they also foster a culture of kindness, encouragement, and mutual respect.

This nurturing environment helps build student confidence, encourages open communication, and promotes a healthy academic atmosphere where learning thrives. The support and approachability of the faculty truly make a lasting impact on our overall growth and success.

Careers360: Does your college help you get internships? Have you undergone an internship via college? Was there any stipend? Share your internship experience with us. Tell us what all you learned, what challenges you faced, which company was it, which profile.

Ritisha: At East Point College of Pharmacy, students receive full support in organising their hospital internships. As a final-year Pharm.D student, I’m yet to begin my own internship, but through interactions with seniors and observing their journey, I’ve gained valuable insights into what to expect.

While the internships are unpaid, the learning experience is truly enriching. One of the key challenges students initially face is adapting to the fast-paced clinical environment, but this very challenge equips them with the confidence and skills needed to navigate real-world healthcare settings. The exposure not only enhances our clinical understanding but also strengthens our ability to handle complex situations independently.

Careers360: Tell us about the placement drive. Is there a placement cell in your college? Do teachers/seniors help you prepare for placements, prepare a resume and conduct mock interviews?

Ritisha: I would say no, but it will really make us students happy if there is an initiative taken as such, especially for the PharmD students.

Careers360: Which all companies generally visit your campus for placements? Can you give us an idea about the salary packages offered to the students at the time of placement?

Ritisha: As part of its commitment to career readiness, East Point College of Pharmacy recently conducted an insightful session that provided a comprehensive overview of the job landscape in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors. The session highlighted opportunities across organisations like IQVIA and TCS, among others.

We gained valuable knowledge about roles in research, pharmacovigilance, and other emerging domains. The discussion also touched upon salary expectations, emphasising that compensation often varies based on job role, specialisation, and geographic location. These sessions play a crucial role in helping students align their aspirations with real-world career paths and industry demands.

Careers360: What all facilities do you have on the campus? What do you like here the most which you feel is unique and differentiating?

Ritisha: The East Point College of Pharmacy campus is thoughtfully equipped with all the essential facilities a student needs for a well-rounded experience, including a well-stocked library, advanced laboratories, spacious seminar halls, dedicated sports facilities, and a vibrant cafeteria.

What stands out most for me is the strong sense of community on campus. Beyond academics, students are encouraged to participate, engage, and grow in every aspect—be it cultural, professional, or personal development. It’s an environment that supports holistic growth, making college life both meaningful and memorable.

Careers360: What about the medical facilities? Can you avail requisite medical attention if needed in an emergency?

Ritisha: East Point College of Pharmacy is supported by a fully functional, on-campus East Point Medical College Hospital, which caters to both basic medical needs and emergencies.

This facility offers a reliable sense of security, particularly for hostel residents, with immediate access to medical care whenever required. The close proximity and accommodation support between the hospital and hostels ensure that students are well taken care of, adding an extra layer of comfort for those living away from home.

Careers360: How do you balance your studies, projects, exams, and other activities?

Ritisha: Managing academics, activities, and personal time takes a bit of planning and discipline. I stay organized by creating weekly schedules, prioritizing deadlines, and ensuring I take regular breaks to recharge.

What truly makes a difference is having a strong support system of friends—they not only help navigate academic pressure but also keep stress in check. With the right mindset and support, balancing college life becomes not just manageable but enjoyable.

Careers360: How comfortable are your hostels and how about the cleanliness factor over there?

Ritisha: The hostels at East Point are comfortable, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed to support student life. Cleanliness is a top priority, with regular checks ensuring hygienic and orderly living spaces.

Whether it’s for focused study time or simply to unwind after a long day, the hostel environment provides a safe and supportive atmosphere, making it feel like a home away from home.

Careers360: What are the popular hangouts at the institute? What, according to you, are the most-visited places nearby?

Ritisha: At East Point College of Pharmacy, the canteen and playground are popular hangout spots where students gather to relax, catch up, and recharge between classes. These spaces foster a sense of community and provide a perfect break from academic routines.

Outside the campus, nearby cafés and local food joints have become student favourites—offering great places to unwind, socialise, and enjoy affordable treats after a long day. Whether on campus or off, there’s always a welcoming spot to relax and refresh.

Careers360: How do you spend your leisure time on the campus?

Ritisha: In my free time, I enjoy a healthy mix of relaxation and engagement—whether it’s reading, catching up with friends, participating in college events, or simply taking a peaceful walk around campus.

It’s this blend of calm moments and active involvement that makes student life fulfilling, allowing me to recharge while staying connected to the vibrant community around me.
