Pharmacy Colleges in Chennai: Specializations Available
D.Pharma
D.Pharma or Diploma in Pharmacy is a 2 year graduate program for the students of Medical science. Generally this course is pursued by students who do not want a long term programme or just want to have the knowledge for the basic concept of Pharmacy and then do specialisations in other fields. The eligibility to pursue this course is to take physics chemistry and Biology in 10+2 and scoring a minimum percentage that is 50 percent. There are some colleges which also take entrance exams at state level while other colleges give admissions directly on the basis of scores in 10+2 examinations.
B.Pharma also known as Bachelor of Pharmacy is a 4 year graduate course. The eligibility criteria in India is to first take Physics, Chemistry and Biology in 10+2 and should pass from a recognisable board. Minimum Percentage is 50% in boards examination. Some colleges also take entrance exams for B.Pharma courses.
M.Pharma also known as Masters of Pharmacy is a 2 year masters course with 4 semesters. The eligibility for this course is that the candidate should have a bachelor's degree from a recognised pharmacy college under PCI ( Pharmacy Council of India). The candidate must score a minimum 50% in the bachelor's degree.
Pharmacy Colleges in Chennai: Eligibility Criteria
For UG: -
The candidate needs to clear 10+2 with science stream subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Math is totally an optional subject but the rest of three are important.
The candidate needs to score at least 50% in their 10+ 2 examinations from a recognized board.
It should be noted that above mentioned criteria are common for pharmacy courses and college but apart from this many colleges may have some additional requirements from the candidates. Hence, the candidates should refer to the respective college for some more information.
For PG: -
The candidate needs to clear an undergraduate program in pharmacy such as B.Pharma.
The candidate needs to score 50% in their bachelors or undergraduate program.

Pharmacy Colleges in Chennai: Admission Process
For UG Courses: -
The candidate should complete all the eligibility criteria given.
There are two options available for the admission process in colleges. Many colleges offer merit based admission and several colleges conduct entrance exams for selecting the students.
For merit based admission, the class 12th marks of the candidates are taken into consideration. The college prepares a cut-off list and all the candidates who meet the cut-off are offered admission to the course.
For the entrance based admission process the candidate must appear for an accepted entrance examination. GPAT is the national level entrance exam for pharmacy courses in India. Other than that, there are state level based and institution level based exams. In Tamil Nadu candidates have to apply for TNEA to be eligible for admission into the pharmacy courses.
Once the student is allocated a seat in a particular college they must fulfill the college formalities to confirm the admission i.e. submission of documents and payment of fees.
For PG Course: -
There are similar two admission processes that are entrance exams and merit based. For merit based admission the marks secured in undergraduate programs are taken into consideration. For entrance-exam based admissions candidates must appear for an acceptable entrance exam for postgraduate courses and score more than the cut-off marks to be eligible..
