D-pharm is a diploma course in the pharmacy of 2 years duration. Those who would like to be a pharmacist in India/ run a pharmacy themselves can do this short-term diploma course and get a license.
There is a misconception among the general public that those who have done a B. Pharma or M. Pharma degree should work as a pharmacist in medical stores. However, this myth has been ruled out by several exciting career options in pharmacy; community pharmacist, researcher, various roles in Government/ NGO, jobs in military and defense sectors, are just a few to name.
Pharmacists should have in-depth knowledge of medicines, the various companies that produce these medicines, side- effects, toxic characteristics, reactions with other chemicals, control, dispense, and so on.
D-pharm is a diploma in pharmacy and is the primary education required to become a pharmacist. In contrast, Pharm-D is a six-year doctorate and is usually done after M. Pharma studies, or students can even directly apply for this course soon after their 12th standard.
Students need to pay an average of Rs. 6.00 lakhs – Rs. 10.00 lakhs to get a Pharm- D admission in most private pharmacy colleges in India.
